How to Find a New Hampshire Medicare Agent: Five Questions to Ask

Finding the right Medicare coverage can be a time consuming and often confusing undertaking. Choosing the wrong plan can be a costly mistake. A local licensed Medicare agent can help you compare your options to find the right plan that best fits your individual needs.

Here are five questions to ask to help you find the agent that is right for you:

1. What types of insurance plans do you sell?

Ideally you want to choose an agent who represents a variety of local and national insurance carriers. Ask the agent if they sell both Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans. The more carriers and products the agent can offer, the more likely you are to find the right Medicare plan for you.

2. How many years of experience do you have?

You should look for an agent who has experience selling different types of Medicare plans in your state. Plan availability, benefits, rules, and exceptions can change every year and vary from state to state. An experienced agent will understand the complexities involved. They have worked with a wide variety of people and circumstances, making them well prepared to assist you in finding the right coverage.

3. What information should I bring when we meet?

When you meet with an agent, they will ask you some questions to help them determine which Medicare plan is right for you. You will be asked to bring a list of your doctors, your medications and dosages, your preferred hospitals, and pharmacies. You will discuss any chronic health conditions, how often you travel out of the area, and your budget. This ensures the plan they recommend offers the benefits you need at a price you can afford.

4. Will you explain all of the costs associated with the different coverage options?

The agent will help you compare and understand all of the costs associated with the different coverage options they present to you. This includes your monthly premium as well as other out of pocket costs that could be incurred, such as deductibles, copays, and coinsurances. If you can’t afford your coverage they can help determine if you qualify for state and federal programs that help pay some of these expenses.

5. After I am enrolled, can I contact you with questions or issues?

Ask the agent if they offer ongoing customer service and support throughout the year. This is important because you want to work with someone who can assist with any questions or concerns that arise with your existing coverage. They can also assist if your circumstances change mid-year, and you need to change plans.

When you work with a local Medicare agent, you have a trusted professional on your side who can be a valuable resource for all of your Medicare decisions.

Note: Silver&Smart does not endorse any specific Medicare agents and we do not sell any Medicare plans. We simply provide listings of Medicare agents available in your state. Many of these agents offer multiple plans. We have not vetted the agents who have purchased listings on this website, so please interview them, ask questions, and select an agent that best meets your needs. Please contact Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, or your local State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) to get information on all your options.
