How to Find a Minnesota Medicare Agent: Five Questions to Ask

Understanding all your options when choosing a Medicare plan can be a confusing and overwhelming task. The good news is you don’t have to decipher Medicare on your own. A local licensed Medicare agent can help you narrow down your options to find the coverage that best suits your needs.

Here are five questions to ask an agent to help you determine if they are right for you.

1. What type of Medicare plans do you sell?

Ask the agent if they sell both Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Supplement plans. The larger the agent’s portfolio of plan offerings, the more likely you are to find the Medicare coverage that best fits your individual situation. Ask if they sell a wide range of ancillary products including stand-alone Part D plans, vision, and dental plans, which is important if you are considering a Medicare Supplement plan. When one agent can meet all your needs, you don’t have to shop around.

2. Which insurance carriers do you represent?

Ask the agent if they represent a variety of local and national insurance carriers who offer Medicare plans in your area. This means they are able to present you with a wide range of plan options to help you find the coverage that is right for you.

3. How much experience do you have selling Medicare?

Agent experience matters. An experienced agent will be knowledgeable in Medicare’s rules and regulations, which can change every year and vary from state to state. They are familiar with Medicare enrollment periods and can help you avoid any gaps in coverage. An experienced agent will have met with many different customers and dealt with a variety of situations, making them well prepared to assist you.

4. What should I bring when we meet?

Be prepared for the Medicare agent to ask you some questions to help them determine what Medicare coverage is right for you. You should bring a list of your prescription medications and their dosages as well as the names of your doctors. You will discuss how often you travel out of the area, and your budget in order to find a plan that is affordable for you. If you decide to enroll in a plan, you will need your Medicare card with your Medicare ID number and effective dates for Part A and B.

5. Will you help me enroll?

Your Medicare agent will assist you with your initial enrollment in the plan of your choice and ensure that your application processes without any issues. They will make sure you get your new ID card from your insurance carrier. Ask if they also offer year round support if you have any questions or concerns about your coverage or if your circumstances change.

When you find the right agent, they can become a trusted advisor offering guidance on your Medicare coverage decisions now and in the future.

Many of these agents offer multiple plans. We have not vetted the agents who have purchased listings on this website, so please interview them, ask questions, and select an agent that best meets your needs.
