How to Find a Kentucky Medicare Agent: Five Questions to Ask

When it comes to choosing your Medicare coverage you have several options, But these options are often what make Medicare so confusing. The good news is you don’t have to decipher Medicare on your own. A local licensed Medicare agent can educate you on your options and help you find the coverage that is best for you.

Here are five questions to ask a Medicare agent to help determine if they are the right agent for you.

1. What types of Medicare plans do you offer?

Agents might sell both Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Supplement plans or just one or the other. Ask if they offer ancillary products such as stand-alone Part D drug plans, vision, and dental plans. The more plans the agent offers, the more likely you are to find the Medicare coverage that fits your specific needs.

2. How many insurance carriers do you represent?

Ideally you want to work with an agent who represents a variety of local and national insurance carriers with plans available in your area. The agent should be familiar with what each carrier offers in order to find the right plan option for you.

3. How much experience do you have selling Medicare?

All agents must be licensed in their state and complete annual training requirements. An experienced agent is familiar with Medicare’s many rules and regulations, which can change every year. They are very knowledgeable and have encountered a variety of clients and situations, which means they are well prepared to assist you.

4. What should I bring when we meet?

Be prepared for your Medicare agent to ask a lot of questions which will help them determine which plan is the best fit for your individual needs. You should bring a list of your prescription medications and their dosages as well as the names of your doctors. You will discuss how often you travel and your budget in order to find a plan that is affordable. They will want to know which ancillary benefits are important to you, such as vision, hearing, and dental coverage.

5. What other services do you offer?

Your Medicare agent should assist you with your initial enrollment in the plan of your choice and ensure that your application processes without any issues. They will follow up to make sure you received your new ID card from your insurance carrier. Ask your agent if they also offer assistance throughout the year to help with any questions or concerns you may have.

When you find the right Medicare agent, they will become a trusted advisor offering education and guidance throughout the year.

Note: Silver&Smart does not endorse any specific Medicare agents and we do not sell any Medicare plans. We simply provide listings of Medicare agents available in your state. Many of these agents offer multiple plans. We have not vetted the agents who have purchased listings on this website, so please interview them, ask questions, and select an agent that best meets your needs. Please contact Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, or your local State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) to get information on all your options.
